Going to the dentist can feel stressful for a lot of people. We believe it’s time to change that and we’re here to help. Let’s talk about 5 ways to practice self-care at the dentist to help take your visit from stressful to relaxing.

1. Be Comfortable

When you get ready for your dental visit, dress with comfort in mind. Imagine your perfect outfit for a cozy day in, reading a book and drinking a cup of tea or coffee by the fireplace. That’s how we hope your dental visit experience feels.

You can also bring a favorite blanket or pillow to really take your comfort to the next level. Just because you’re going to a dental appointment doesn’t mean you can’t bring the comforts of home with you!

2. Wear a Favorite Scent

One of our favorite ways to practice self-care at the dentist, essential oils can be a great source of comfort and calm. Oils such as lavender, chamomile, rose, ylang ylang, and jasmine are all valued for their ability to help promote a sense of relaxation and well-being.

3. Enjoy Your Favorite Show, Movie, or Music

Many modern dental offices are equipped with TV screens and headphones so that you can enjoy your favorite show, movie, or music during dental procedures. Don’t be afraid to say “yes” when they’re offered and take some relaxing “me time” while your dental team works on your teeth!

4. Tell Your Dentist Your Concerns

Sometimes practicing self-care means speaking up for yourself. If you feel anxious, unsure, or uncomfortable, let your dentist know! Your dentist will be happy to answer any questions you have.

5. Ask Your Dentist for What You Need

One of the most important ways to practice self-care at the dentist is to talk with your dentist about what you need prior to and during your visit. That way, your dental team can do their best to accommodate your needs and make any adjustments that might be helpful throughout your visit to ensure your confidence and satisfaction with your dental care.
